The short answer

Identify your business, thank the customer and offer a direct link to share their experience. Keep the request optional and neutral. Do not ask for a particular rating or offer a reward.

Prepare the message before copying a template

Replace every bracketed field, check the link and verify the recipient. Use the contact method and messaging permission agreed with the customer. These examples are wording suggestions, not a determination of whether a particular SMS campaign is legally permitted; confirm applicable requirements with your messaging provider.

Include any sender identification or opt-out wording your provider requires. Do not include unnecessary address, payment or personal details in a review request.

Four original templates you can adapt

Simple completed-job request

Hi [First name], thanks for choosing [Business]. If you would like to share your experience, here is our Google review link: [Review link]. Thank you.

After a plumbing or HVAC visit

Hi [First name], thank you for having [Business] out for your service visit. You are welcome to share your experience on Google: [Review link].

After a multi-day project

Thanks for choosing [Business] for your project, [First name]. Now that the work is complete, you can share your experience here if you wish: [Review link].

One optional reminder

Hi [First name], a brief reminder from [Business]: if you would like to review your recent service, the link is [Review link]. If you have already reviewed us, thank you — no further action is needed.

The reminder is an optional editorial example, not a recommendation to send it to every customer. Suppress messages when the customer has opted out or when your records show a request should not be repeated.

What to remove from a request

  • Requests for five stars or dictated wording.
  • Discounts or other rewards in exchange for a review.
  • A satisfaction survey that only shows the review link to happy customers.
  • Promises that posting a review is required for normal service.

Google’s review policies explain these boundaries. Ask for a genuine experience and let the customer decide the content.

A pre-send quality check

  1. Preview the message on a phone.
  2. Confirm it opens the correct Business Profile.
  3. Check the job has finished and the message fits the customer’s local time.
  4. Check opt-out and duplicate suppression in your delivery system.
  5. Send a test to an authorised internal recipient before enabling the workflow.

For automated requests, keep one controlled message template rather than separate copies maintained by every technician. See the post-job workflow checklist and KEDO review automation for the completion-to-request process.
